Welcome to the South Parkland Youth Association (SPYA) Softball website!
Registration for the 2017 Fall Season is OPEN!
Fall softball registrations continue through July 31st. We anticipate having a minimum of one team per age division.
Registrations are also open for semi private pitching lessons (2:1 instructor/player ratio) as SPYA Softball is proud to continue their partnership with Alex MacLean and 7 Deadly Spins. After some feedback from everyone, we will continue to offer semi private lessons at our Grange Park indoor facility. They are scheduled on Sundays after 3:30pm to allow all players to attend. We will start these on August 13, 2017. Also, as every pitcher is at a different level, Alex and her instructors will accept feedback, questions, and tailor the lessons towards your goal.
The Parkland Fall Softball Season runs from the end of August through October. Practices and team rosters will be announced the first week in August. Practices are typically 1.5 to 2 hours twice a week, 1 or 2 weeknights and 1 practice on the weekend either Saturday or Sunday. The practice schedule is determined by the coach. However, coaches are encouraged to have practices on different days during the weeks to ensure players can make most practices
Games are as follows:
10U plays Saturdays at 1pm
14U plays Saturdays at 4pm
12U plays Sundays at 1pm
18U plays Sundays at 4pm
These time and days are open to be changed only if agreed upon by the respective coaches and teams. .
Practices and home games are played at Springhouse Middle School fields with a few games scheduled to play at Patriot’s (Pates) Park.
Game schedules are set by the league associated with the team and are released about 1-2 weeks prior to the first game of the season. Parkland Softball League and Lehigh Valley League will send coaches the draft schedule before the season starts. This will be sent out to the parents/players. The League will not allow games to be rescheduled unless it is due to weather.
Age is the age of the player on January 1, 2017. In other words, if your daughter is 10 years old on January 1, 2017 she will play 10U (10 and under). Players will be assigned to the age group as noted. In the event a team needs a player to play a game, we will solicit a player from a younger age level to play “up” for that game.
The registration fee includes Softball game Jersey, batting helmets and catcher’s equipment.
I encourage special requests on team assignment with the understanding that not all requests can be honored. There are many different factors that I consider with these requests. Such as equal number of players on each team, players’ ability, number of volunteers for each team, etc. If your registration is dependent on a special request to be assigned to a specific team, please do not register as I cannot guarantee special requests can be honored.
In closing I encourage every parent that has some time during the season to volunteer to assist in our program. Our program and your daughters experience in SPYA Softball is dependent on the quality and number of volunteers we have.
Please check out softball.spya.org throughout the season for information. We will work on keeping all updates including practice and game schedules, game results, fundraising results, contact info and other information.
