The Parkland Fall Softball Season runs from the end of August through October. Practices and team rosters will be announced the first week in August. Practices are typically 1.5 to 2 hours twice a week, 1 or 2 weeknights and 1 practice on the weekend either Saturday or Sunday. Games are on Saturday and Sunday only unless otherwise agreed upon by the respective coaches and teams. The practice schedule is determined by the coach. However, coaches are encouraged to have practices on different days during the weeks to ensure players can make most practices.
Practices and home games are played at Springhouse Middle School fields with a few games scheduled to play at Patriot’s (Pates) Park.
Game schedules are set by the league associated with the team and are released about 1-2 weeks prior to the first game of the season. Parkland Softball League and Lehigh Valley League will send coaches the draft schedule before the season starts. This will be sent out to the parents/players. The League will not allow games to be rescheduled unless it is due to weather.
Age is the age of the player on January 1, 2018. In other words, if your daughter is 10 years old on January 1, 2017 she will play 10U (10 and under). Players will be assigned to the age group as noted. In the event a team needs a player to play a game, we will solicit a player from a younger age level to play “up” for that game.
The registration fee includes Softball game Jersey, batting helmets and catcher’s equipment.
We have formed a partnership with Alex MacLean and 7 Deadly Spins. We will be offering hourly semi private lessons (2:1 instructor/player ratio) and a larger group clinic (8:2 player/instructor ratio). We will be holding these on Sundays after 4pm in the month of August and September. Details are to follow. These sessions will be held Sunday after 4pm (no games or practices will be scheduled at this time).
I encourage special requests on team assignment with the understanding that not all requests can be honored. There are many different factors that I consider with these requests. Such as equal number of players on each team, players’ ability, number of volunteers for each team, etc. If your registration is dependent on a special request to be assigned to a specific team, please do not register as I cannot guarantee special requests can be honored.
Parntership with 7DeadlySpins Pitching instruction
We have continued our partnership with 7DeadlySpins and have inlcuded the option for semi private piching instruction on Sunday afternoons (not to interfere with games or practices) July 29, August 5, 12, 19, 26, and September 9. These lesson will be helds after 3pm on the dates noted above. Fees are in the registration system to sign up while registering.
We will also offer a Coaches and parents Informational pitching clinic.
August 14, 2018 8-9pm.
The Hitter's Edge
Clinic is designed to introduce coaches and paretns to pitching.
Topics discussed: Pitching form, motivating pitchers, injury prevention, game day, etc.
A sample of pitchers will be in house to demonstrate skills

Voluntary Winter Workouts
We will be starting winter workouts after the Fall Season ends. We will be holding these workouts based on the number of volunteer parents/coaches we have. This will be set up as a weekly RSVP by the Friday before that Sunday. I will be asking for 1 volunteer parent or coach for every 5 players. If you do not RSVP to me (not a coach or friend) by Friday, you may not be able to participate Sunday depending on the number of volunteers for that Sunday.
The workouts will be held at the SPYA Building at Grange Park. We will start with focusing on just getting the players catching, throwing, pitching and swinging a bat again and work from there as they progress. Any player that also pitches can use this time to come and practice pitching (bring your own catcher/parent). Depending on participation we may look at alternating times. For example, some players from 6 pm – 730 pm and others from 730 pm – 9 pm.
In closing I encourage every parent that has some time during the season to volunteer to assist in our program. Our program and your daughters experience in SPYA Softball is dependent on the quality and number of volunteers we have.
Please check out softball.spya.org throughout the season for information. We will work on keeping all updates including practice and game schedules, game results, fundraising results, contact info and other information.
