Welcome to the South Parkland Youth Association (SPYA) Softball website!

Well, the SPYA Spring Softball Season is coming down to the final two weeks.  As some teams have wrapped up their season, we can look back at another successful season.  Success for SPYA Softball is not about the wins and losses but how the players learn and grow as players and young ladies.  To me it starts with the parents and the coaches we have in SPYA
Softball.

In previous years, most of you would have seen me walking the fields, however, this year my schedule prevented me from doing this as much.  Some of you may know, but I had taken a role with the Parkland Softball League as the statistician.  As League Statistician, I was responsible for the scheduling and rescheduling of games, mostly behind the scenes emailing coaches and following up with them to reschedule the games impacted by weather.  I also was updating the League website with scores and schedules, along with coordinating the assignment of umpires for the League.  With almost 30 organizations and 74 teams and the amount of games impacted by weather this was a challenging year for not only me but all the coaches.  With that said, SPYA Coaches did an amazing job and working with other coaches from not only other organizations but other SPYA coaches to ensure the games wee played and we had fields available at Springhouse.

All that being said, much of the success also goes to Kyle Seyler.  Kyle has been instrumental on not only being the head coach for our 10UD2 and 18U Red teams, but also served as co-commissioner and a liaison to me and the coaches to ensure they had supplies and the necessary information/equipment that in previous years I supplied to the coaches.

While yesterday brought an end to most of our seasons, we still have prep and 18U teams playing.  Both 18U teams, have advanced to the semi finals of the Parkland League playoffs.  SPYA Red 18U, coached by Coach Seyler, Coach Firestone, and Coach Bommarito will play at Northwestern.  SPYA 18U Grey, led by Coach Schlechter, Coach Spangler, Coach DeStefon, and Coach Stoner will play at Pates Park.  Please check our websites Master Schedule as these games will be played either Tuesday or Wednesday and both teams would welcome the support of all SPYA players, coaches and parents.  If both teams win, they would play each other Saturday at Schadt Ave for the League Championship.

On to other exciting news, SPYA will begin to transition to a new web-based platform.  We will be moving to TeamSnap.  This transition will be done gradually so stay tuned.

SPYA Softball is continuing their partnership with 7DeadlySpins.  Alex of 7DeadlySpins will be doing a coaches/parents clinic on August 14th at 8pm.  Coaches and parents of pitchers that are interested please contact me ASAP for more details.

We will also be opening Fall Softball Registration the first week of July.  Games are played on weekends starting the end of August through the end of October.

We will also offer semi private pitching lessons with 7DeadlySpins on July 29, August 5, 12, 19, 26 and September 9.  These will be scheduled to not conflict with any games.  Registration for this will be included as an option for Fall Softball registration.

In closing I want to thank all the coaches and assistant coaches for a challenging season (due to weather) and a successful season.  I am hopeful all with return as we rely on our volunteers to make our program a success.

I want to personally thank Shelley Maley for acting as communication director and sending out numerous emails to keep everyone informed as much as possible.  Also, our volunteer manager, Allison Shimon, which tracked and ensured our volunteers were in compliance with current law, to include background checks for all volunteers.  I am hopeful both continue with SPYA and renew their volunteering for such crucial roles in SPYA Softball.

As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or have interest in our many volunteer opportunities.
